Publix Distribution Center Expansion

Description of Project:

Expansion of 438,728 square feet Publix warehouse built in 1989, with an additional 542,178 square feet. That would consist of a 551,693-square-foot warehouse for dry goods and a 19,228-square-foot return center. The new warehouse would rise 48 feet, which is significantly taller than the existing warehouse. The parking spaces on the site are increased by 362 to a total of 782. Kajima Associates in Atlanta designed the project and Batson-Cook Construction. Hypower worked on that expansion while the existing space remained occupied 24/7.

Scope Includes:

• BIM modeling
• Upgrades to Private 13.2k medium voltage service to include the addition of medium voltage switching and 2 medium voltage transformers.
• Temporary 2,000 amp quick build switchboard employed to turn on Publix operations, later to be swapped with 2 Interlocked 3200A switchboards while occupied operations remaining
• 2 motor control centers to handle and control warehouse air flow.
• Addition of a 200kW life safety generator
• Upgrades throughout the new and existing site include 66 pole lights.
• Turnkey fire alarm system and tied into the existing building
• 110 dock door and dock door leveler connections
• (8) 400-amp busways serving 160 forklift chargers
• 12 electric vehicle charging stations.
• Lightning protection system
• Interesting fact- at pea,k had (27) 50′ rough terrain lifts running. Lifts were specially sourced from all over the state, as well as from out-of-state vendors and multiple suppliers.
