FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, December 22, 2016 –
Last night at 7:30 pm Hypower received an emergency service call from a client, regarding a mission critical fiber optic cable break at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. One of their construction crews on the site hit two fiber optic cables while installing piles on their project at Fort Lauderdale International Airport.
The cable they hit was a 48count, 62.5-micron Multi-Mode fiber installed about ten years ago. The damage sustained wasn’t just a splice; it was 250lf of cable that needed replacing. This is the type of cable that no distributor would have in stock. The Hypower dispatch team contacted the Hypower Communication Division to send out a crew. The team led by Tom Budkey, one of Hypower’s finest Master Electricians and Certified Fiber Optic Cable Splicers, instantly loaded up his guys to head to the airport. The cavalry was made up of Mike Sanchez, James Budkey, and Keith Henry.
Close to impossible in this short time-frame, Hypower was able to secure some left over cable that would do the trick. Our crew picked up the cable in Coconut Creek and some splicing materials in Doral and headed to the airport. In less than 2 hours of receiving the first call at 7:30 pm Hypower was on site beginning the repairs. Hypower successfully completed the job at approximately 3 am this morning and received several accolades from our client. The Executive Vice President of the Construction company that called Hypower exclaimed: “You are a Super Hero!” Mark Gambrill, Director of Capital Projects for Broward County was on site early this morning to thank our crew and exclaim how impressed the County is with Hypower!
