The Ritz-Carlton South Beach – ABC Award-winning project by Hypower
Project TypeComplete Electrical Systems and Related Work
LocationMiami Beach, FL

Description of Project:

The Ritz-Carlton South Beach is a landmark beachfront resort that was closed for more than two years after Hurricane Irma caused water damage in 2017. The owners invested $90 million to redo all 376 guest rooms, the ballrooms and meeting spaces, hallways and restaurants, working with the City of Miami Beach to renovate the historic hotel to preservation standards.

It was a challenging remodel with many preexisting conditions, designer custom lighting and custom finishes to work around. Hypower used an 800-ton crane to replace a 1.5 MW generator on the fifth floor, and rebuilt the historic light fixtures on the lobby’s curved “bubble wall,” which returning guests recognize along with the original 1950s black terrazzo floor.

Scope Includes

  • Renovations, rooftop mechanical equipment and egress lighting
  • Turtle-friendly lighting for all beachside exterior lighting
  • Custom pre-manufactured headboard assemblies in guest rooms
  • Replacement of all electrical on the roof
  • New LED lighting in the lobby and bistro, connected to the existing lighting control system
  • Replacement of all exit signs, matched to the existing fixtures
  • Rebuilt and rewired historic light fixtures on the lobby’s curved wall
  • Replacement of a 1.5 MW generator on the fifth floor
