Description of Project:
Hypower played a pivotal role in the Valley International Airport runway extension in Harlingen, Texas. As the electrical subcontractor responsible for advanced navigational aids (NAVAIDs) and a state-of-the-art fiber optic transmission system, Hypower helped make the airport one of the most technologically advanced in the country, supporting the extended runway’s operational capacity and precise landings in all weather conditions.
The project extended Runway 17R-35L from 8,400 feet to 9,500 feet at a total cost of $35 million, funded 80% by the Airport Improvement Program and 20% by passenger facility charges. An extended runway closure was in place during construction, making timely installation critical to an on-time opening.
