Belleville Substation - Belleville, Alabama*

*Personal Experience of Mr. Jamie Craig, VP of Substation Construction at Previous Firm

Description of Project: Project consisted of a modification to an existing 138kV Substation. Installation of (7) 115kV switches, (1) station service, (1) circuit switcher, connections to existing transformer, all associated steel, bus work, conduit, grounding, etc. Removal of (6) existing 115kV switches, bus, grounding, etc.

Additional Service Performed: Install 3 concrete poles and stringing of overhead transmission conductor into the station.

Complexities: Limited schedule and working inside an energized environment. Areas where construction was being performed were not accessible by machine which required additional temporary work to access these areas.

Success: Project was completed on schedule with zero accidents.

Challenges: Installing concrete poles (90') and removing/installing switches while working inside energized substation. Fabrication to existing steel was needed due to the bolt patterns of the new equipment verse the patterns on the old steel inside the station.

Subcontractors: None were used.
